Where ClearRoute was stuck.
ClearRoute's 200 drivers were using a combination of WhatsApp groups, paper manifests, and phone calls to coordinate deliveries. Dispatchers had no real-time visibility into vehicle location, delivery status, or exceptions. Customer satisfaction scores were falling due to unpredictable ETAs and missed delivery windows.
How we solved it.
We ran a two-week discovery sprint with drivers, dispatchers, and operations managers to map the actual workflow, which differed significantly from the documented process. The resulting design prioritised one-tap status updates for drivers and a live dispatch board for coordinators. We built the app in React Native with a Node.js backend, integrating with existing routing software via API. Weekly user-testing sessions with real drivers informed 14 design iterations before launch.
Results that matter.
The app launched to all 200 drivers in week 10. Dispatcher call volume dropped by 61 % in the first month as real-time status eliminated most check-in calls. On-time delivery rate improved from 78 % to 94 %. The App Store rating settled at 4.8★. Drivers, unprompted,, described it as 'the first app built by someone who actually talked to a driver'.
